Commitment to Technology
Research has shown that technology in the classroom increases learning and as we all know, technology is EVERYWHERE! It has revolutionized the world in which we live. As a future teacher, I will continue be knowledgeable about the many varieties of technology. Kids are learning how to use their parents’ smartphones and computers before they enter school. As the ever-changing world of technology reaches our students, I will embrace it and use it to enhance the learning experience. I will incorporate it in my lessons with each opportunity given.
I have had the privilege to experience the many avenues technology has to offer through my academic courses at West Virginia State University. I created flyers and brochures in Microsoft Word, created interactive PowerPoint presentations, including games and quizzes, and produced graphs, spreadsheets, and grade books in Excel. I used Audacity recording software that allowed me to edit and create different sound combinations. I also worked with the Kidspiration and Inspiration software to create lessons and activities. I completed 10 virtual field hours in the class where I watched educational videos and read articles pertaining to them.
I have seen first-hand the reaction students have had with technology. From my educational experiences, teachers have used it to review concepts, grade papers as a class, read live stories, and play educational games. During my field placement hours, I have used technology to enhance learning in the classroom. I used the SMART Board for educational games, videos, and projection of activities and stories. In my previous job as a preschool teacher, students used the computer for educational games and skill building activities. I also used the Internet to show videos of topics we were studying and maps to develop their sense of community and the relations of city, state, and United States.
The lesson I am featuring studies rhyming words. Students completed different activities that assisted in strengthening their knowledge of rhyming words. They used the SMART Board to play a rhyming word game that was used as a summative assessment.
