Commitment to the Profession
A teacher is not someone that comes to school everyday, teaches his or her lessons for the day, and goes home. A teacher is someone that submerges him or herself into all things education. They must realize they are the sculptors of the future generation. They are responsible for constructing good citizens with good democratic values. Teachers must maintain professional knowledge and continue growing in their profession. Teachers need to be constantly engaged in the school community. Their responsibility reaches much farther than the four walls that surround them. Teachers have an obligation to invest time outside of the classroom in order to guarantee student success. They must see themselves as role models inside and outside of the classroom.
Given the above expectations, I am committed to the profession. I understand that it is my responsibility to be loyal to my students and school community. I can do this through continuing my education and nurturing my own identify within the profession. I will make every effort to seek out knowledge when I am unsure. I believe that professional development is the driving force behind student success. I will embrace change and try out new and suggested teaching methods. I will appropriately and adequately contribute to student development.
Since 2012 I have been a member of West Virginia State Training and Registry System for progressional development for early care and education. I have attended a variety of training sessions including Medication Administration and Embracing our Challenges. These additional courses have exposed me to different aspects of teaching that I wouldn't have necessarily learned through my education program at WVSU.
I have also volunteered since the fall of 2013 at Lakewood Elementary School administering the Quick Phonics Screener and Dolch Sight Words test to first grade students. This opportunity has allowed me to gave additional knowledge about these two tests and to be an encouragement to students who are struggling in these areas.
