Philosophy of Education
My ambition as a teacher is to plant the love of learning in the minds of students. I want my students to be excited about learning and I will provide them with opportunities to discover what they are passionate about. It is my hope to instill an eagerness to learn and to light a fire inside them so they have no fear in pursuing their dreams. It is my responsibility to give students the tools needed to utilize the knowledge acquired to be successful in life.
I believe that each child is a unique individual and needs to have a secure, nurturing, and challenging environment in which grow. It doesn’t matter the place a student comes from, all students can learn and become successful individuals. Students come from all backgrounds and face obstacles that most of us didn’t have to cope with as children. Basic needs, such as food, shelter, and love, are many times not being met. In order for learning to take place, those basic needs need to be satisfied. I want to provide a setting that enables my students’ needs to be met not only academically but also emotionally, physically, and mentally. I will aim to reach each child and provide for differences in learning.
My educational mission statement is linked with my philosophy of education. I believe that any child, no matter their upbringing, can change their path in life. We are only destined by the choices in which we make. I want to be a role model that displays my love for learning. My beliefs and those of West Virginia State University’s coincide on many different levels. I will holistically approach student learning by remaining knowledgeable of and using the learning theories of human growth and development in classroom instruction. I will be understanding of the diversity in my classroom and promote equity. I will utilize my knowledge in management strategies and differentiated instruction so all students can flourish. I will build an environment where student achievement is my number one priority. I will incorporate an open communication system with students, parents, and staff, while preserving confidentiality. In my lesson plans, I will incorporate different strategies and assessments so all students have the opportunity to have their learning style met. In all lessons, I will ensure that state and national standards are being satisfied so my students can obtain the best education possible. I will embrace technology and use it to enhance the learning experience. I will continue my education to provide students with the knowledge and ability to reach their full potential.
